Computer browser service not found in windows xp

The only time this will affect the average user of this forum is if they are trying to support legacy devices such as XP or some NAS devices which cannot operate without SMB1. They do not depend on it or on the computer browser service.

There have been a lot of patches over the last few months. I had, but I went ahead and just did it again. Still no luck. All Windows 7 boxes can see each other, but not XP machines. Check the IP address of one of the machines you cannot browse to.

Then ping it by name from the command line of another machine. Does it resolve the computer name correctly? Just feeling around for other possible issues that could cause this. Are you using a WINS server for any reason? Can you try a nbtstat -R from teh command line just for fun? No WINS server. I ran the command you recommended and it successfully purged and preloaded.

Problem still exists. I tried this on an XP box and Windows 7 box. I feel like you are having an issue of some kind with the master browser. Im wondering if this is going on. I was able to find this out before by using "browstat status" but that does nto work in Server or Win7. Im perusing some stuff.
