Microsoft exchange search indexer stopping

The other two mailbox servers don't have this same issue. The event log doesn't seem to have anything pertaining to this other than the message informing that the service has stopped.

But no clues as to why? I tried disabling the file-leve AV software just in case, but this didn't resolve the issue. Please try to restart Microsoft Search Exchange and then check the event log, there should have some event rasied. The MS Exchange Search Indexer service does restart also, but shortly afterwards it stops as it usually does. And there are seemlingly no clues left in the event logs.

The other two mailbox servers in the DAG are fine. This weekend I plan to install UR5 to get them updated, and see if it somehow resolves the issue with the Search Indexer service. Hi drbabs, What is the status of the ContentIndex on that node? Have you tried to reseed the content index?

If it is started, then content index state is Healthy. But the service will stop a couple of minutes later again. UR5 hasn't helped matters. If the reseed doesnt work, stop the search service, delete the catalog files on disk, then restart the service and the catalogs will be rebuilt. As mentioned, mailbox2 and mailbox3 are fine. Even if i do, step 6 e mentions deleting the item with subject " Microsoft Full Text Indexing Engine". But i don't see any such file?

Please try to delete the index catalog, I suspect the catalog is corrupt. Click Start , point to Administrative Tools , and then click Services. Check mailbox database configuration : Is the IndexEnabled parameter set to true for the user's mailbox database?

If yes, go to Step 3. If no, run the following command in the Shell to verify that the IndexEnabled flag is set to true. For detailed syntax and parameter information, see Get-MailboxDatabase. Check mailbox database crawl state : Has the Exchange database been crawled? If yes, go to Step 4. Perform the following steps:. In the console tree, under Monitoring Tools , click Performance Monitor. In Add Counters , in the Select counters from computer list, select the server on which the mailbox database you want to monitor is located.

In the unlabeled box below the Select counters from computer list, select the MSExchange Search Indexes performance object.

In the Instances of selected object box, select the instance for the user's mailbox database. In the Performance Monitor pane, the MSExchange Search Indexes performance object is listed in the Object column, and its various counters are listed in the Counter column. View the Crawler: Mailboxes Remaining counter. Any value of 1 or higher indicates that mailboxes in the database are still being crawled. When the crawl is complete, the value is 0.

Check the database copy indexing health : Is the content index healthy? Use the Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus cmdlet to check the content indexing health for a database copy. Run the Test-ExchangeSearch cmdlet : If the mailbox database has already been crawled, you can run the Test-ExchangeSearch cmdlet for the mailbox database or for a specific mailbox.

Check the Application event log : Using Event Viewer or the Shell, check the Application event log for search-related error messages. Here are the steps: 1. If the response is helpful, please click " Accept Answer " and upvote it.

This method was tried and unsuccessful. I had three DAG nodes, I deleted one and it returned to normal. Glad to hear the issue has been resolved. Please feel free to accept your reply as the answer to the question.

It would also be helpful to other community members. Thanks for the sharing! How can i permanently release an email ID from getting into quarantine. Helped with unblocking attachments in outlook emails.
